Connect your tools

After this page you know what each connection unlocks and what access it grants. Connections live in Settings → Connections.

Read-only vs. read and write

Every connection is one or the other, and it decides what Winston can do in that system.

Read-only

Winston can look at the data in that system and report on it, but cannot change anything there. Nothing you approve in Winston writes back to a read-only system.

Read and write

Winston can look at the data and also add or change records there, such as submitting an invoice or posting a message. Writes from a starter prompt wait for your Approve in Work Audits. A typed chat request that writes can go straight through, so ask Winston to gate it through Work Audits first.

How much access does Winston get? Exactly what the key or sign-in you connect it with allows, and no more. When an admin generates a key in Metrc or another system, that key carries its own permissions and Winston gets those and nothing else. A read-only key keeps Winston read-only there; a key that can write lets Winston write.

One POS caveat. When this guide was checked Aug 22, 2026 a Treez connection was read-only whatever key you supplied, so nothing Winston did wrote back to Treez. That can change: before you rely on Winston writing to your POS, open Settings → Connections, or ask Winston in Chat "what can you change in my POS?", and confirm what your own connection allows.

How connecting works

Connect: most tools use an API key from that system; some use a sign-in window. An Owner or Admin presses Connect on the card and follows the steps.
Check: a connected tool shows a green Connected badge.
The off switch is Disconnect: the unlink icon on any Connections card. Confirm Disconnect and Winston is out of that system immediately.
Missing a system? Use the Request button.
Stopped working? Ask Winston to check the connection; an admin reconnects it.

Access follows the key you supply. The question is never "can Winston write?" but "what access did we grant when we connected it?" Per-system rules: Account and access.
